Ven. Fedor Stracke

We are very pleased to welcome Ven. Fedor to Nalanda. He is the Senior Western Teacher for the Basic Program at Nalanda, leading discussions and meditations for one week in every month.

Venerable FedorVen Fedor Stracke was born in 1967 in Saarbruecken and grew up in Munich, Germany. Inspired by a book in 1985, he became involved with the Zen tradition and studied meditation. In 1986 he embarked on a long overland journey in Asia where he worked, among other things, as a mediation teacher.

After a stay in Tibet he found his way to Nepal, and the Kopan Monastery in 1987. He remained there to study more on the Lamrim and participated in the annual Lamrim course. In 1988 he received the Getsul vows and in 1994 the full ordination (Gelong) with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Since 1990, he spent more than ten years at the Monastic University of Sera Je in Southern India in order to pursue the Geshe studies. Ven. Fedor was also one of the founders of the IMI-house for Western monks in Sera Je and in 1996 became its first director.

Since 1988, Ven. Fedor has taught in FPMT centers in India, Nepal, New Zealand, Australia and Germany and since 1996 he served as a translator for various Geshes.

Ven. Fedor is currently the resident teacher at Aryatara Institute in Munich.
