Sanghata Sutra Marathon
Wednesday 17 September 2008
156 recitations completed
October 7 - 17 2008
For the second time, the monks of Nalanda will recite continuously the Sanghata Sutra for 10 days.
By reciting the Sutra a lot of positive karma will be created. This merit, the positive karma, will be dedicated to the welfare of all sentient beings. May all sentient beings find inner and outer peace. The positive energy will also be created in order to continue practicing Buddha’s teachings.
The whole Sutra recitation is being broadcast live via a webcam 24 hours a day to help raise the 108,888 Euros set as the target, and for all who view the event to receive the blessings of this Sutra. The recitation can be seen live anywhere at the bottom of this page.
Nalanda is donating half of the money to Tsetang Khangtsen, part of Sera Jay Monastery where our abbot comes from. They are one of the poorest Khangtsen’s of Sera and we’d like to help them build a gompa, kitchen, and library, but also to repay the kindness of our abbot for his teaching and compassionate service.
The other half raised will help towards repairing the large hole in the roof of Nalandas old building. Some of the monks could be getting wet in the winter, so we hope to be able to put a roof over their heads before they are swept away!
If you’d like to help either of these projects, you can do so via the donate button below.
You can join the recitation, and create extra merit, by downloading a free copy of the sutra and reading along with us. Even reading just one verse is amazingly beneficial.http://www.sanghatasutra.net/
May all living beings have only happiness

We apreciate if you could share the merits of this magnificent Sangata Sutra marathon for the quick attainment of the Peace in Mexico

Sanghata Sutra Marathon16 October 2008, by Venerable Lobsang NamgyelDear Sangha of Nalanda Monastery - what you are doing is very inspiring and even though I do not have the karma to live in Nalanada, I rejoice every day, thinking How Wonderful It Is that a monastery for western monks exists and is promoting Dharma education and through this website, offering that experience to the world. Thank you so much. I pray that you will reach the required amount of donations in order to completely finish the work that is necessary. With all best Dharma wishes, Venerable Namgyel.

Sanghata Sutra Marathon13 October 2008, by Wendy S. King, ESL, Ben L. Smith High School, Greensboro, NC, USAWhy do you have to read so fast that no one can understand what you are saying? We are not familiar with your accent and it would be nice to be able to understand the holy sutra. Otherwise, what difference is it from the chattering of squirrels reciting the Holy Squirrel Sutra? Thank you for all you do. It is a wonderful idea and I dedicate all your merits, but the point is to hear the sutra and understand it. "Not to be like the heathen, who think they will be heard for their much-speaking."

Sanghata Sutra Marathon15 October 2008To the monks of Nalanda Monastery : the speed at which you are reciting is just fine. All the words could be heard distinctly. If anyone wants to ponder on the text, they could always obtain a free copy of it, and ponder the text at their leisure at http://www.fpmt.org/teachers/zopa/advice/sanghatasutra.asp and also at http://www.sanghatasutra.net/index.html . Also, to recite the sutra in different languages affirms the universality of the sutra and its contents, apart from being thoughtful of the different languages of the different listeners. Thank you for spreading so many blessings ! Stephen Ho.

Sanghata Sutra Marathon11 October 2008, by Henk van der PolDear Friends, Nalanda is a (w)holy place in both the meanings of the word. A place where the world comes together in Buddha Thoughts; Dharma and Sangha! A very special place as the monks come from all over the world. I have the advantage to know several of them and can assure everybody that they do good work! So there is no better thing than to support them,as their work must continue and behold for the future. It is in the benefit of all sentient beings and you can help too! So ask your friends, family to donate! Day and night we have our computer on and sometimes when we have time between the normal work we try to follow the Sutra as we downloaded it. Kindly regards Henk van der Pol, The Netherlands

Sanghata Sutra Marathon16 October 2008, by Alison Harr
Thank you for this offering of recitation of this lovely sutra. You at Nalanda go slower than at my center during recitation. I work at Liberation Prison Project and Tse Chen Ling in SF, CA. We are writing 10 copies and reciting Sanghata Sutra to remove obstacles. Two days ago our Dharma center was robbed and computers and valuables were stolen. Many of Ven. Robina’s holy objects were taken, the most things were stolen from her. No one was hurt. In these hard times listening to this holy sutra uplifts us. Thank you for doing this and all you do. Om Ah Hung
Many Thanks, Alison K Harr

Sanghata Sutra Marathon11 October 2008, by Tenzin Sonam
Namo Buddha!
Thank you again for this wonderful blessing of the Buddhadharma. I find it so inconceivably miraculous that an event like this is taking place. In the days when Sakyamuni Buddha walked the earth, people traveled great distances to hear just a few words of the Dharma. We are truly blessed that we have access to the relics of the Dharmakaya, such as the Sanghatasutradharmaparyaya and the Heart Shrine Relic Tour. You can download the sutra and have it printed in a matter of minutes, if you have the capabilities! How wonderful is that!
Thank you to the FPMT, Lama Zopa Rinpoche and lineage masters, and to the dedicated bhikhus of Nalanda and all of you listening and watching for helping to uphold the Dharma.
Thank you to all the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Taras and Dharma protectors of the Ten Directions and Three times!
OM AH HUM
ps. Is there going to be a recitation of the Sanghatasutradharmaparyaya in Sanskrit? :)

Thus have I heard at one time and at another time and at another time.
Dear Venerable Thubten Gelek and all the monks at Nalanda - excellent! excellent! that you are making such an inspirational effort as this, at this time. Every best wish for the reciters, the recitations and the act of reciting to generate success in all virtuous actions.
While you are reciting I am listening online as I write the Sanghatasutradharmaparyaya out in gold and dedicating for the removal of obstacles to the great success of the Happiness & Its Causes Conference in San Francisco, to all the projects of Liberation Prison Project, Tse Chen Ling, Sherab Plaza Trust, of Ven Robina Courtin and all our spiritual friends, FPMT and the vast vision and tireless dedication to relieve the suffering of all sentient beings manifested by Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche. May all the obstacles to their holy wishes be instantly removed and may the realisations of the Buddhadharma ripen in the minds of all mother migratory beings as swiftly as possible.
OH AH HUM OH AH HUM OH AH HUM
