Retreat at Nalanda

Friday 9 November 2007

The monastery offers the possibility for serious lay practitioners as well as monks to do meditation retreat in good conditions. We have all the facilities where the various preliminary practices, such as prostrations and making tsa- tsas, can be done. In particular we have both the facilities and experience to perform the fire pujas required at the end of certain retreats. Not only can an experienced monk help and advise you with the preparation but also assist in performing the puja itself.

A retreat can consist of a combination of both study and meditation; advice is also available on how to do such retreats.

Retreatants must be properly prepared and should have had some previous meditation experience. They should commit themselves seriously to their retreat.

stupaDue to monastic discipline we can only accommodate men in the monastery, but women who have a tsa tsa commitment or need to do a fire puja to complete a retreat commitment can stay in our house in Lavaur.

In the near future, when our new facilities have been completed, we hope to be able to run group retreats at the monastery, with both monks from Nalanda and some of the highly respected teachers from the FPMT.

It is necessary to book in advance by email.

Bodhicitta Land

retreat houseNalanda has started to extend beyond its boundaries in Labastide St.George. Due to the generosity of one our community we have acquired a site in the Pyrenees.

The land is situated in a remote valley, some three hours driving from Nalanda and is intended to be a place where serious practitioners can undertake long retreats in an atmosphere of natural tranquility and beauty. The community chose the name ’Bodhicitta Land’ from one of the suggestions given to us by Lama Zopa Rinpoche. There are already two huts and a few ruins which are waiting to be rebuilt on this 8 hectare site.
