Accomodation and Fees
Thursday 29 November 2007
Students who are under the age of 35 and unable to pay the single room fees may be asked to share a room. If external accommodation is needed, Nalanda is dependent on the students’ initiative.
Fees
Resident monks €200 per month Nuns (non-residential) €125 per month
If Sangha have difficulties to pay, the monastery and the Lama Yeshe Sangha Fund might be able to help.
Aspirant monks (those lay men considered to have the necessary qualifications to take ordination in the near future) €250 per month
These fees cover the rent of the room, three meals a day and tea/coffee. Teachings, transcripts and instruction materials are offered at no cost. Costs for self study books, internet use and laundry are extra.
We suggest that nuns make arrangements to live at Institut Vajra Yogini, which is 11 km from the monastery.
It is clear that the above fees for monastics and aspirants are insufficient to cover costs. Due to donations (from sponsors, some of our small art projects and other smaller forms of income), we can continue existing in this way.
Residential Laymen (single room) €700 per month for those only wishing to attend some of the term. €650 per month for those making a commitment to attend the full Program.
Residential Laymen (shared room) €450 per month.
These fees cover the rent of the room, three meals a day, and tea/coffee. Teachings, transcripts and instruction materials are offered at no cost. Costs for self study books and use of Internet and laundry facilities are extra.
Non-residential Students €250 per month, if there is commitment to follow the whole program, and includes internet use, coffee and tea. €300 per month if there is not a commitment to follow the whole program.
Teachings and transcripts and instruction materials are offered at no extra cost. Costs for self study books and use of internet and laundry facilities are extra.
The monastery cannot provide accommodation for female students. If they arrange their own housing (at Institut Vajra Yogini or with private people), they will be regarded as non-residential students.
Nalanda does have a small guest house to offer female students very close to the Monastery. Please contact us for more information.
It is the responsibility of all to students to make appropriate arrangements to fulfill any requirements regarding their visas, residency permits or health insurance during their stay at Nalanda.
Financial Assistance / Work Study Program
Nalanda wants to offer a work-study program for aspirant monks who have financial difficulties. Ideally, everyone must be able to support themselves financially for at least the first few terms of the program. After one has shown sincere interest to complete the program, it may be possible to attend the program in exchange for 14 hours Karma Yoga per week. A student would then receive a reduction of half the cost of shared room accommodation.
